From the ground up, this was a complete renovation of the entire house and yard. Located in a neighbourhood where visibility was an issue, screening once again becomes a concern especially for the backyard “living room”. Large Arborvitaes were planted along the property line to serve as a back drop for the rest of the scene. What was a catch all for junk in the backyard became a granite and stone water feature with patios above and next to the pond. This area became the homeowner’s sanctuary with flowering Rhododendron and Viburnum. Wrought iron fences added to the Secret Garden feel.
The front yard, on the other hand, became a show piece for the neighbourhood. A uniquely shaped cutting garden that bloomed all summer and a paver driveway defined by a boat shaped entrance to the house became the focal points of a design that was pure collaboration. A boxwood hedge leads visitors to both the front and back gardens while vinca and hosta festoon the remainder of the driveway edges.
