Over the river and into the woods...

Building a home, in the woods at the end of the road, was a thrill for this “retiring” homeowner and our designer. The first challenge to overcome was the inherent grade changes in two directions and the homeowner’s desire for an entrance that served as both access and entertainment area. Problem solved with a couple of steps integrated into the overall design of the walled patio. A circled picnic area already on site became the theme for the entire design. And a native plant palette was mandatory as maintenance was a challenge for aging hands, even though she loved to putter outdoors. A No-mow lawn was hydro-seeded after the planting so that mowing the hill only needed to be done twice yearly. The project spanned two years for budgetary reasons, but the outcome was well worth the wait.
